Plain oyster crackers?  Have you ever had seasoned oyster crackers?  When the kids were still at home, I often made the ‘Ranch and Dill Crackers’ and the kids really enjoyed them.

My son, Will, sent me a text a couple of weeks ago and told me I needed to add that recipe to my website.  That was the catalyst for this post on seasoned oyster crackers.

I noticed on Pinterest that there were other flavors of seasoned oyster crackers.  These cracker recipes are so similar and yet changing up the flavors makes them so different!  Hope you enjoy!

1. Ranch and Dill Oyster Crackers

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. oyster crackers
  • 1 pkg. (1.6-ounce) Original Ranch Dressingor Dips Mix
  • 3/4 cup oil
  • 1 Tblsp. dill weed
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Mix dressing mix, oil, and dill weed.  Then, pour over crackers and toss until all crackers are covered with the mixture.   Place crackers on a sheet pan and bake at 250° for 10 minutes.  Stir and flip the crackers over and bake an additional 10 minutes.
  2. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.  Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.

After I made the dill crackers, I noticed an Italian Ritz Bitz flavored snack on Pinterest.  Hmmm.  That would make a good oyster cracker, too.  That recipe called for vegetable oil.

Considering this, I thought doesn’t olive oil just make more sense for an Italian version?  A little garlic powder and a little basil seemed to be needed, too.

So, I revised the Italian version a little and I think they turned out pretty dang good.   I might try a little oregano next time, too.  What do you think?

2. Italian Oyster Crackers
Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. oyster crackers
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 package zesty Italian salad dressing mix
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. dried basil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 250°.
  2. Place the crackers in a large glass mixing bowl.
  3. Measure the olive oil in a glass measuring cup.
  4. Add the dressing mix, the garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp dried basil to the olive oil.
  5. Pour the oil mixture over the crackers.  Gently stir and toss well, coating all the crackers with the seasoned oil mixture.
  6. Next, place the crackers on a foil-covered sheet pan.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes at 250°.  Flip the crackers over after 10 minutes and return to the oven for 10 more minutes.  Cool and serve or store in an airtight container.
